Flare Knockout Drum
LINSON OIL supplies project-specific flare knockout drums for removing entrained liquid from flare, relief, blowdown or vent gas before downstream flare handling. Vessel orientation, inlet arrangement, separation internals, liquid hold-up, level instruments, drain or pump-out connections, nozzles, supports, materials, design pressure/temperature, inspection and code basis are confirmed from the actual relief cases and project specification.

Dedicated Flare-System Pressure Vessel
The drum is engineered from the relief/vent flow, liquid carryover, allowable pressure drop, hold-up requirement, outlet philosophy and mechanical design basis.
Liquid Separation Logic
Reduce liquid carryover before the gas continues to the flare header, stack or downstream venting equipment.
The design should be based on the actual relief, vent or blowdown cases rather than a generic droplet-size or separation-efficiency target. Flow regime, vapor/liquid properties, transient liquid load, allowable pressure drop, required hold-up and drainage philosophy determine the vessel arrangement.
- 01 / RECEIVE
Receive the Relief Stream
Introduce relief, vent or blowdown flow through the project-selected inlet nozzle and inlet device.
- 02 / DISENGAGE
Reduce Momentum & Disengage Liquid
Use vessel volume and the selected internal flow path to promote separation of entrained liquid from the gas stream.
- 03 / HOLD
Collect & Hold Liquid
Provide project-defined liquid hold-up, level monitoring and drain or pump-out connections for the expected liquid load.
- 04 / ROUTE
Route Gas & Liquid Separately
Send separated gas toward the flare/vent system while collected liquid is routed to the approved drain, recovery or transfer destination.
Applications
A dedicated pressure vessel for liquid control inside flare, relief and vent systems.
This page covers the independently purchased knockout drum. The complete flare system, including stack/tip, ignition, headers and controls, remains on the separate Flare System page.
Main Flare Header
Liquid-removal duty upstream of the main flare routing where relief streams may contain condensate, hydrocarbon liquid or water.
Relief / Blowdown Service
Transient or emergency relief/blowdown cases requiring temporary liquid separation and hold-up.
Vent-System Liquid Knockout
Project-defined vent systems where liquid carryover must be controlled before downstream handling.
Modular / Revamp Projects
New or replacement drums integrated with existing headers, drains, pumps, structures, instruments or skid boundaries.
Structure, Internals & Interfaces
Configure the vessel around transient gas flow and liquid-management requirements.
Horizontal or vertical orientation, inlet device, demisting provisions, liquid hold-up, level instruments, drains, pump-out, nozzles, supports, access and materials are project-defined. No fixed performance value is claimed for droplet removal or liquid hold-up.
Shell, Heads & Orientation
Horizontal/vertical arrangement and pressure-boundary geometry are selected from flow behavior, hold-up duty, layout, loads and code basis.
Inlet Device & Separation Internals
Inlet momentum-control and demisting provisions can be included where required by the actual relief stream and downstream protection objective.
Liquid Hold-Up & Level Control
Normal/low/high levels, hold-up volume and level instrumentation are established from the credible liquid load and drainage philosophy.
Drain / Pump-Out Interfaces
Gravity drain, closed drain, recovery, pump-out or other liquid-disposal connections are coordinated to the downstream destination.
Nozzles, Relief & Instruments
Gas inlet/outlet, drain, vent/relief, pressure, temperature, level, sampling and maintenance connections follow the P&ID and vessel Data Sheet.
Supports, Access & Corrosion Basis
Saddles/skirt/legs, access, lifting and materials/coating or corrosion allowance are selected from site, service and project requirements.
Engineering Inputs
Relief cases and transient liquid load define the drum.
Provide the flare/relief P&ID, Data Sheet and relief-case basis where available. Final vessel sizing, internals, liquid hold-up, pressure drop, materials and mechanical design should not be fixed until the operating and mechanical inputs are clarified.
Relief / Vent Flow Cases
Normal/emergency/transient cases, gas/vapor flow, liquid carryover, duration, simultaneous-case basis and inlet pressure/temperature.
Fluid Properties
Gas composition, molecular weight where available, liquid type, density/viscosity, condensate/water/solids, H2S/CO2 and corrosion information.
Hold-Up & Outlet Philosophy
Required liquid hold-up, allowable pressure drop, level philosophy, drain/pump-out route, closed-drain/recovery interface and downstream flare-header conditions.
Mechanical / Inspection Basis
Design P/T, code, materials, corrosion allowance, site loads, nozzle schedule, NDT, pressure test, TPI, ASME U/National Board requirement if applicable, documentation and transport limits.
Manufacturing, NDT & Pressure Testing
Build the vessel to the approved mechanical design and inspection basis.
Manufacturing resources support pressure-vessel fabrication, material traceability, welding controls, dimensional inspection, applicable NDT, hydrostatic/pressure/leak testing, nozzle and internals inspection, coating checks and project-specific FAT/TPI documentation.
Material & Traceability
Verify materials, MTCs, identification and traceability according to the approved quality plan.
Forming & Welding
Shell/head forming, fit-up, welding and heat-treatment requirements where applicable follow released drawings and procedures.
NDT & Pressure Test
Applicable RT/UT/MT/PT and hydrostatic, pressure, leak or tightness tests are performed to the project/code basis.
Final Inspection & Records
Nozzle, internals, coating, dimensional, documentation, FAT and TPI checks support final release where included in scope.

Flare Knockout Drum Manufacturing Scope
Available qualification material explicitly includes flare knockout drums within the licensed pressure-vessel design/manufacturing scope of the manufacturing resource.
Certification Boundary
ASME U / National Board Resources Where Applicable
Pressure-vessel code resources are applied only where required by the project and only under the actual certificate holder and authorized manufacturing scope.
Flare Knockout Drum RFQ
Send the relief cases, liquid carryover and mechanical design basis.
Share the flare/relief P&ID, relief-case summary, vapor/gas flow, liquid carryover, source and downstream conditions, hold-up or drain philosophy, design pressure/temperature, material/corrosion basis, nozzle schedule, required code and inspection requirements. We will clarify the vessel configuration before quotation.
Detailed datasheets, drawings and project-specific technical documents are prepared after the operating conditions, scope of supply and commercial basis have been sufficiently clarified.
