What a Two-Phase Separator Does

A two-phase separator separates a mixed process stream into a gas outlet and a liquid outlet. It can be applied in production, gathering, well testing and upstream gas-treatment duties where gas-liquid separation is required.

Operating Principle

How Two-Phase Separation Works

A practical sequence of mechanical separation, residence time, and process control--not a generic vessel selection.

Inlet Separation

The inlet device reduces momentum and directs the mixed stream into the vessel.

STEP 02

Gravity Settling

Velocity is reduced so entrained liquid droplets can separate from the gas phase.

STEP 03

Liquid Collection

Separated liquid collects in the liquid section with volume sized for operating duty.

STEP 04

Mist Removal

A selected demisting element can reduce liquid droplets carried toward the gas outlet where required.

Control

Level and pressure devices support stable operation according to the agreed control philosophy.

Questions Before You Request a Quote

What information is needed for a two-phase separator quotation?+
Please send available gas and liquid flow rates, operating and design pressure, temperature, fluid properties, corrosive-service data, solids conditions, site requirements and preferred supply scope. An RFQ, datasheet or P&ID is helpful when available.
How do you choose between a horizontal and vertical separator?+
Orientation is reviewed against gas and liquid loading, required liquid holdup, plot space, transport limitations, solids conditions, maintenance access and the project design basis. It is not selected from one rule alone.
Can a demister be included?+
A mist-elimination element can be included when required by the gas-outlet separation duty. The final type and arrangement are confirmed during technical review.
Can the separator be configured for sand or solids?+
Drain and solids-handling provisions can be evaluated when sand or other solids are part of the process basis. Final arrangements depend on the expected solids conditions and operating requirements.
Can instruments, valves and controls be included?+
Yes, depending on the agreed project scope. Piping, valves, pressure and level instruments, control functions and skid integration can be coordinated as part of the package.
What documents and inspection records can be supplied?+
The final document list is agreed by project and can include drawings, datasheets, material certificates, welding records, NDT reports, test records, FAT documentation, manuals and packing documentation within the agreed supply scope.
